The Treasury has announced a £3,000 grant for businesses that do not pay business rates to help them survive the coronavirus pandemic. Around 700,000 businesses in England currently eligible for Small Business Rate Relief (SBBR) or Rural Rate Relief can apply for the emergency funding.
Last Thursday saw the YTKO West of England team host an event with Bristol 24/7, to celebrate International Women’s Day. The venue was the beautiful Coopers Hall at the Bristol Old Vic and almost 50 business women from the city came together for coffee, cake and networking. Speakers, Sue Turner CEO of Quartet Community Foundation and Nicky Marshall and Sharon Critchlow of Discover Your Bounce, spoke at the event, providing thought provoking and inspirational content around this year’s theme ‘Equal for Each’.
Wednesday evening saw the YTKO team attend the Enterprising West of England ‘Ones to Watch 2020’ awards at the Bristol Old Vic.
This prestigious event celebrated the successes of the thousands of businesses from across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, who had been supported by the EWOE programme.
GetSet for Growth and Outset clients were very well represented, with clients in every award category which included Female Founder, BAME Leader, Contribution to Community and Young Person in Business.
Last Wednesday saw Get Set for Growth involved in a Business Challenge Day at University of Bristol, with clients Lucy Preston and Tom Harbour from ‘Maths With Parents’. Students from a range of disciplines including Marketing, International Business Management and Economics attended the day and worked in teams to create branding, marketing and social media concepts for the business, with the day culminating in Dragon’s Den style client pitches.
Last Friday saw the GetSet for Growth Team head to Origin Workspace in Berkerley Square, Clifton, for the Pitch 2019 bootcamp, hosted by Bristol’s Box2Media.
The team delivered workshops on ‘perfecting your pitch’ and ‘accessing finance for your business’ to 50 budding entrepreneurs, who had been shortlisted from hundreds of hopefuls. Following the workshops, each contestant gave a 90 second pitch on their game-changing product or business idea.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has today announced £1m funding for Building Growth South West, a funded programme to help people explore a career in construction.
Led by YTKO the project will take place across the West of England and Greater Exeter regions to support members of the public to explore a career in construction.

Our West of England ‘GetSet for Goals’ mixed football team recently had a wonderful time competing in a weekend charity football tournament in support of the ‘Well Beans’ initiative.
Based in Bristol, this social peer network helps start conversations surrounding mental health and provides a compassionate culture in which individuals can engage, with the ultimate aim of reducing social isolation. Through their range of services such as training, wellbeing workshops and local events they continue to assist individuals with mental health to empower themselves and those around them.

Our fully funded work in the region in collaboration with the Dorset Business Growth Partnership is available to help any county-based SME wanting to become more competitive in the market. Dedicated strands of activity include pre-start and start-up support, focussing on improving companies’ marketing performance, and overall financial management capabilities.
